We’re delighted to present The Report for Launch of reach out Project to support Teenage Pregnant Girls organised by Dependable Foundation & Heal The Planet Global Organisation – HTP “In Special Consultative Status with United Nations – UN” The Launch funded by Reproductive Health Uganda, The Danish Family Planning Association – DFPA with support also from BBS Telefayina, UBC & KEB International Group – KIG was hosted at Serena Hotel, Kampala on June Saturday 19th 2021.

The Mistress of Ceremony (MC) of the day was Ms. Mildred Tuhaise who is a News Anchor at NBS , a national TV in Uganda. She welcomed all participants and attendees both online and physically and noted that they had to contend with the new normal of holding virtual events in the wake of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic – whose second wave had informed a second lockdown in Uganda. By the end of the 42-day lockdown that had been instituted, she hoped for reduced COVID cases especially around the Kampala Metropolitan Area which was registering scores of positive cases by the day.

She welcomed everyone online including the distinguished guests and the Guest of Honor, the First Lady of the Republic of Uganda Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni whom she recognized as having been attending online from inception of the launch event. She encouraged those attending physically to observe the standard operating procedures (SOPs). She informed attendees and participants that the theme was “Rebuilding Broken Walls” in support of ending teenage pregnancy. She highlighted the numerous stories of scores of teenage pregnancy during the first phase of the lockdown as a result of Government directing all efforts to curbing the spread of the pandemic and cutting short the Sexual and Reproductive Health services.

She quoted the deplorable statistics from the 2016 UDHS which highlighted the dire state of adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) situation including the fact that 25% of adolescent girls between 15-19 years had either already given birth or were expecting their first child. She indicated that that was partly the reason why the discussion around teenage pregnancy was organized by Dependable Foundation and Heal The Planet.
